This pandemic year, one of the smallest things that has brought me the most joy has been curbside library pickup. At night, typically with a cup of peppermint tea and if I’m lucky a purring cat by my side, I read our collective TBR blog, browse my favorite #kidbookstagram accounts, and fill up my online library cart with titles others have shared that I long to read.
Sometimes it takes days, and sometimes weeks or even months for them to arrive– but receiving the email that there is a stack ready for pickup thrills my reading heart each and every time.
Often the stack is small, just 3-5 books, but sometimes the stack is a borderline embarrassing “did-you-leave-any-books-for-anyone-else?!” kind of cache.
I’ve developed a bit of a reputation with the library staff this year of being a “frequent flier,” and have a hunch my high volume status will linger long after curbside pickup is a thing of the past. I’m so grateful for libraries and for the librarians who worked throughout this year to continue to put books into the hands of readers, and for this awesome stack largely comprised of library pick-ups from the past week just waiting for summer vacation.
Happy summer reading, everyone!
