Last week, author Meg Medina shared a link to an article on Twitter–Why Adults Should Read Middle Grade Books:
The value in returning to these books as adults is in reminding ourselves what it’s like to be a kid, to gain a different perspective on the world, and to expand our understanding of different experiences and communities.

As a 4th grade teacher, I have a never ending TBR stack/list of middle grade novels. I love to read alongside my students, share book recommendations, and have an up-to-date classroom library. I also very much appreciate the complexities and life lessons that are woven throughout middle grade reading experiences. I believe that even adults outside of the realm of education could learn a thing or two by reading children’s books.
Next month, some beloved middle grade authors have new books soaring into the world! Here’s what we have to look forward to:

- Yusuf Azeem is Not a Hero by Saadia Faruqi – September 7th
- Born Behind Bars by Padma Venketraman – September 7th
- A Soft Place to Land by Janae Marks – September 14th
- Room to Dream by Kelly Yang – September 21st
This fall will be filled with wonderful reading experiences. I hope readers of all ages will enjoy them!
Have long known the value of adults reading books intended for younger populations. Thank you for acknowledging this sentiment in your writing. Insightful lessons for all of us older readers as we take a trip back in time or peruse a newer novel!
