A new book is born in a very crucial time of all of our lives. I’m very thankful to author Ilima Loomis to give light to this beautiful book as she walks us through a very beautiful and important tradition: a Hawaiian lü’au. Ilima Loomis was born and raised in Hawaii and she lives in Maui. Her voice and experience gives a special meaning to this book because this is a tradition close to her heart. It is my hope you can get your hands on this book as it provides a beautiful window to so many of us, into an important Hawaiian celebration.
In the meantime, while you wait to get this beautiful book, I invite you to take out a your notebook/journal and sketch or write all the things that family means to you. You can turn this brainstorming into a beautiful book to share with your students! For me, when I think of family, I think of long Sunday dinners, ice cream in the parks, long walks and sparklers in the summer nights. What about you? What ideas come to mind when you think of the meaning of family?
Happy Reading! Happy Writing!
